Ooo, Ooo (the funkygorilla), thought I would get in first again!
I agree with your comments on Flash using your batteries, but to be honest you could say exactly the same about the H.264 video codec. In other words you are pretty much stuffed on watching video. Practical advice: -
- Turn bluetooth off if you aren’t using it
- Turn wifi off if you are not using it
- If you want to watch video, rip it to mp4, using a codec that isn’t H.264. Ripping it will stop your CD spinning up, and the other common mp4 format is not so processor intensive.
- Turn your screen brightness down
- Turn your processor speed down if you can (in energy saver panel on the Mac)
On the Tomizone Wifi offering. I know that you are not supposed to resell your bandwidth. Hopefully Tomizone have a way around this, but it is worth asking them. Probably the issue I would be more concerned about is security. If you are going to do this, I would tend to put another router between yourself and the Tomizone router. That will act as a hardware firewall, and will certainly reduce the risk of them accessing your network (specially if you change the router password from the default!).
Other comment would be that in the US there is a law that you are responsible for the data going through your network. I am not sure if this is the same in Aus., but I know where the police would come knocking if someone was surfing child porn from your IP address!
btw – Re Google Maps
Did you know you can create your own map for your customers? If you click on my maps you can create your own, then using the “link to this page” link, you can email it or embed it on a website.
This can be a cool way to send your location to someone. Show locations where you have taken photos, or where your customers are located.
I have just received the email below, and thought that it is maybe something you should warn your customers about.
Normal rule of thumb applies. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
